Ashes, the Swannanoa Fire Department Mascot Dalmatian, asks for the Community’s Help!

- Ashes, the Swannanoa Fire Department Dalmatian Mascot
Ashes, who has become quite a celebrity, needs our community’s help! She is twelve years old and has worked with the Swannanoa Fire Department teaching children the importance of fire safety and being an emissary for the department. The Fire Department staff is understandably fond of Ashes and is considered a member of their family, as are many local residents whom have been greeted at the door of the station by Ashes for years. Unfortunately she has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure compounded by arthritis. Her medication and special diet costs which amount to over $100 a month have been covered by the generosity of volunteer fire fighters and others at the department as well as her Vet, Dr. Otto Sharpe.
However resources for Ashes are running low and the Swannanoa community has the opportunity to help out. To help Ashes, you may take donations to the Swannanoa Fire Department, and label it for Ashes’ fund, or mail your contribution to Swannanoa Fire Department, P.O. Box 177, Swannanoa, N.C., 28778. For more information, call the Fire Department at (828) 686-3335. You can also find a great story about Ashes in the Black Mountain News by clicking on this link: BlackMountainNews.Com/AshesNeedsYourHelp.
